Choosing Funeral Home and Cremation Flowers

Flowers have been used as decoration at funeral homes and cremations in New Brunswick, NJ for almost as long as they’ve been around. However, this doesn’t mean it’s easy to choose the right flowers and arrangements for your loved one’s service. Choosing the kind of flower you want and how they will be arranged may seem overwhelming, but this outline of the steps can help.  

1. Choose The Flowers Themselves – The first step is to choose what kind of flowers you want. Most types are appropriate, but lilies are one of the most traditional funeral flowers as they symbolize purity and innocence. However, you are free to choose whichever flower you think best represents your lost loved one or matches with your style preferences. Sunflowers, daisies, and carnations are more lighthearted, and would be appropriate for a celebration of life, while roses, hydrangeas, or greenery are more somber.  
2. Pick the Arrangement – Next you must decide how the flowers you chose are to be arranged. There are lots of different kinds of flower arrangements, from classic bouquets and standing sprays to casket sprays, hearts, crosses and more. Think about the overall layout of the funeral and where flower arrangements would fit in. If there are tables, bouquets in vases would be appropriate, but if there is mostly empty floor space a standing spray would work better.  
3. Consider Religion – Some religions have strict guidelines about whether or not flowers should be present at a funeral. Buddhism, Eastern Orthodoxy, and Christianity encourage displaying flowers, while Hindu ceremonies only have flowers sent by sympathizers and Judaism prohibits flowers altogether.  Don’t forget to take religious concerns into consideration as you don’t want to offend.  
4. Arrange For The Flowers Post Service – Most funerals have lots of flowers sent my mourners and purchased by the bereaved. Be sure to send thank you cards to those that sent flowers, but other than that deciding what to do with them after the ceremony is up to you. You could take them home, leave them at the gravesite, give them to friends and family, or donate them to a hospital or hospice. 

Flowers are traditionally a big part of funeral services, and the above guide should help you choose and arrange for flowers for your lost loved one’s funeral or cremation. The flowers help set the mood for the entire service, so even though they are ornamentation they should not be taken lightly.
