Obituary of Christina E Carew

Christina Elizabeth Carew has gone from labor to reward on October 25, 2019 at Park Crescent
Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. Christina, nicknamed “Crissy” was born on March 12,
1937 in Gibraltar Village, Corentyne, Guyana. She also attended #1 Primary School in
Corentyne, Guyana.
In January 1984, Christina married Ivan Carew an AME church in Georgetown Guyana. In 1985
she migrated to the United States where she resided permanently with her husband at their home
in East Orange, New Jersey. Christina was a very hard working individual and not long after
arriving in the United States she successfully completed a Nursing Assistant course. She soon
realized that she did not care for that profession; and not long after found employment with the
Stanley family where she remained happily in their employ for 13 years as housekeeper and
babysitter.
Christina knew how to enjoy life and surely showed that with the many outings and functions
that she would attend. On a Friday or Saturday afternoon, you would find her getting ready for
one of her many outings, such as church bus rides, taking the train to the city, or attending broad
way shows with her husband. On Sundays, she loved playing her various gospel songs and
dancing while making dinner. Christina loved to cook, so you would consider yourself blessed if
you got the chance to taste some of her favorite meals which she loved to share, one of which
was her cook-up rice. At Christmas, you could depend on her making her delicious pepper pot
with homemade bread for herself and the family. She loved being with her grandchildren and
often made frequent trips to spend time with them.
Christina Elizabeth Carew is survived by husband Ivan Carew, her sons Colvin and Mark Jonas,
grand children Colvin Jonas Jr, Melissa and Marcus Jonas; sisters Charlotte Charles, Millicent
Decruz, Nieces Harriett Rogers, Viola Pollard, Carol Jonas, Paula Heyleger, Emlyn Jonas,
Desiree Charles. Nephews Alfred Jonas, Desmond Blair, John Jonas her good friend Joy Sanford
and a host of nieces and nephews. Christina is preceded in death by her parents Christopher and
Vanira Jonas, Eric, James, Henry and sisters Muriel, Anetta, Voilet and Mavis.
