Veronica Harris-Sanders
Veronica Harris-Sanders (also known as Tillie) was born April 5, 1945 in Rich Square, North Carolina. She was born of Roosevelt Taylor and Vernice Harris (aka Tank) (both deceased).
The family relocated to Newark, NJ in 1947 where she soon learned how to take care of the household at an early age and help raise her siblings Jean Arthur (deceased) and Melinda while their mother worked. Veronica was very witty, caring, loved her family, and very protective of her family.
On December 4, 1964 she married the love of her life Robert Norman Sanders, Sr (deceased) and from that union they had four children Robert, Jr, Robin, James, and Keith. Unfortunately, Robert, Sr was killed July 11, 1965 on his 21st birthday. Three years later she developed a relationship with Chester Crawford and from that friendship Kelley was born.
Veronica was educated in the Newark Public School System and later earned her GED and Associates Degree in Child Psychology at Essex County College.
She served several years as President of Newark Housing Authority Tenants Association of Hayes Homes and worked directly with Mayor Sharpe James.
December 1998, she accepted Christ at Metropolitan Baptist Church in Newark where she later completed her Discipleship Classes and became a member until her health further deteriorated in 2010. She was also an active participant member of Missionary and Seasoned Saints Ministries.
Veronica leaves her Sons Robert, Jr, James E. (Cynthia), Keith and daughters Robin, and Kelley. Grandchildren Brian, Brianna, Tashana (Omar), James D., Radee, Jasmine, Latia, Jamil, Devonte, Isaiah, Charles, Jr, Steven, and special daughter in-law Laverne.
She also leaves her Brothers - Ronald Taylor, Stanley Taylor, Larry Taylor, Sisters - Melinda Harris, Celestine Taylor-Whitaker, Paulette Taylor, Jacquelyn Taylor-Deloatch, and a host of Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, and Great Grandchildren.
