We are heartbroken. We were pregnant at the same time Asenath. I have a memory of my son picking up the pacifier that she had dropped and putting it back in her mouth...they were only 1 year old. She stepped up as a young adult to empower, impacting the life of my other son, with a smile. We are grateful and will always remember her kindness. We had a lunch date planned but took a rain check due to corona... May the Lord provide special comfort to you and the family, especially Rina and Naomi. Stay faithful. God has promised a reunion.

My love PJ, Nyar Kodero, nyakwar Okal, I am lost for words! My heart bleeds for the loss of a young woman with a big heart. There are too many memories to list here but I cannot forget the last two months your sister and I took care of you between Robert Wood Johnson hospital and University Hospital, Newark. Though you were tired at times, I am so happy that we had some deep conversations. I remember how many times I had to wake you up to go to school or to work When you did not hear your alarm. The planning for your last trip to kenya together was fun - mapping out your flights to home bay to go visit with grandpa and my family in Kadem, planning for your trip to Mombasa and checking out hotels....Surely, you loved life from our trip to DC last year with your sisters, etc. We cooked together as you learned how to make samosas, cabbage, etc. I should not forget your childhood and the many many days I spent the night in the hospital with you throughout those years...only a god knows. I will forever cherish every moment we had together. That last night of your life was very difficult PJ but gamy was there rooting for you until your last breath. I look forward to meeting you on the other side! God loved you more and gave you rest. I love you

My name is Britney-Lee Johnson, Pauline’s friend from JAMAICA and someone I CHOSE to be my family! I recently completed law school and Pauline’s drive and motivation helped me in some of my darkest moments.
I wrote this short poem for her:
A woman with a golden smile, a golden heart and a golden soul,
We ALL can learn from her life truth be told,
We met on twitter, the millennial way,
But Pauline’s love for people commenced a friendship for which I could never pay
Her accomplishments are many too many to name,
She did all this, in spite of her pain
She so often told me of her love for her family,
I must admit she seemed to be besties with little
miss Naomi.
She bragged about how strong her mother is, how no nonsense her father is, how beautiful and supportive her sisters are,
Although I know them not, her love for them could be seen from a far.
This golden woman, this golden woman filled with love,
At this moment, she is with our God up above.
I love you Pauline! I know God has you in his arms. A beautiful Kenyan queen! Until we meet again!
My tears are many but I am smiling knowing that she lived a LIFE that she LOVED.

Pauline was a loving sister, a dear friend, and a leader. She was a bright light in this world, and truly treated everyone that she encountered with love and Integrity. She was honest, true, and always followed her North Star. Our friend group to this day would always call her “Mom” because she was the motherly figure of our group. She always listened to what you had to say, cared about the problems in your life, and was there to help you in anyway that she could. This woman touched every soul she met in a positive way. She taught me, and I’m sure many of you, life lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. She was an older sister that I never had and, as painful as this is, I know she is at peace. When wife or husband dies , you become a widow or widower. When you parent dies, you become an orphan. When your child dies, you become ? I can’t find the word because it’s not supposed happen, nyar Kodero. I am yet to accept your departure — when I wake up, I keep peeking into your room checking if you are working from home or not . Except for a few sleepless night worrying about your Safety when you would go out and come back @5:00am, you and I had a great time last December 2019 at Rongo and in Nairobi. When I picked you up after being discharge from the hospital on Friday 9/25/20, all you wanted to discuss is December 2020 Kenya trip. Why why why could you not wait!!!! . Your departure has changed me for ever and will never look at life the same. I will miss your forever, Atieno . Good bye until I see you again in heaven !!!

So sorry for your loss! May God grant you and your family a way to deal with this. No one ever gets over such a loss, but over time I hope you will get better at living with the loss. I hope the knots in your stomach will loosen up over time, as well as the tightness you are feeling on your chest right now. I didn’t know your daughter, but I can tell she was looking forward to so much out of this life. May she rest in brightness.
