Obituary of Dorothy Mae Glover

Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Dorothy Mae Randall was born November 22, 1953 to the late Lessie Bell Randall and Curtis Randall in Princeton, N.J., the fourth of seven children. The family lived in Hightstown and Cranberry, New Jersey before moving to Newark, N.J. She was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late William Glover in 1975 and to that union came one child, Rachae Glover.

Dorothy attended grammar school in Newark and graduated from Barringer High School, in Newark, N.J. in 1971. She attended Essex County College where she took up typing (Keyboarding) and Office Management.

Dorothy accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior at Deliverance Evangelistic Center in 1968 under the leadership of the late Apostle Arturo Skinner. Dorothy threw herself into ministry endeavors and activities with an unmatched zeal and purpose. She could be found singing in the choir, working with the youth, traveling on crusades, working on the witnessing team and even playing drums. She was also a devotional leader, which is akin to the present day Praise and Worship leader. She enjoyed setting the atmosphere for the service.

Her sense of dedication to ministry and church work continued under the leadership Apostle Ralph Nichol, upon the demise of our Chief Apostle, Apostle Arturo Skinner. Thus, she was a receptionist at Deliverance Temple for a number of years and she also worked at the University Hospital in Building Engineer Department.

Dorothy could sew and make some of her own clothes. She learned this skill in high school in Home Economics class. She also knew her way around the kitchen. Her cooking and baking was in high demand, so much so, that people would asked her to cater their various events. She was also very artistic and gifted in the area of flora design and arrangements. Her passion was making people happy with her gifts and talents.

Needless to say, Dorothy’s life mirrors the redemptive story of the Prodigal Son---one who left the sound protection of home and squandered everything he had. Moreover, if Dorothy could speak to us today she would say: “I turned my back on God and nearly forfeited some of the very best that He had for me; but one day I got tired of being sick and tired and returned home. I rededicated and accepted the Lord Jesus Christ back into my life and oh what a change in my life. Now heaven is my home--- a place where I’ll never grow old, no more pain and no more heartaches.”

Dorothy joined the Resurrection Temple of Christ Church, in Newark, Jersey, under the leadership of Pastor Stanley Newsome. Thus, Pastor Newsome and his lovely wife really took Dorothy under their wings and helped her to work out her faith. She would often make complimentary statements about her church family. Although she experienced several health issues and even spiritual setbacks, she yet loved and continued to serve the lord.

Two of Dorothy’s greatest accomplishments were returning back to God and raising her only son, Rachae (of course, with the help of family and friends). She poured her love, strength and wisdom into raising a productive and positive man. Dorothy is preceded in death by her grandmother, Annie Mae Parker, grandfather, Lester Davis; mother, Lessie Bell Randall; father, Curtis Randall; mother-in-law, Eloise Chestnut, sister, Ann Randall, and brother, Larry Randall

Her memory and legacy remains in her love for her son, Rachae (Georgette), grandchildren: Briyyanah, Zayinah, Dnaja and Dshaun, great-grandchildren: Milan and Bri’yon, siblings: Betty Harris, Rich Randall, Yolanda Curtis and Timmy Randall. Aunt, Joyce Woods, uncle, Willie Parker,  her close and trusted friend Diane Lock, and a host of relatives and friends.
