Obituary of Gloria Ann Hawkins

Gloria Ann Hawkins was born April 23, 1959 in Newark, NJ to the late Dewitt and
Evelyn Hawkins. God called her home to rest on August 8, 2018.
Gloria resided in Newark, NJ in which she attended Barringer High School and
graduated salutatorian of her class. She enrolled in Montclair State College to major in
Nursing. After a year and a half of attending Montclair State College she realized that
caring for children was her passion. In 1987, Gloria became gainfully employed at The
Leaguers Headstart Inc,. She touched the lives of all those she encountered at The
Leaguers for over 30 years.
Gloria mothered three children, Damien L. and Daniel D. Hawkins, and Shayah
M. Williams. The love she shared with each and every child was different yet
immeasurable.
Gloria loved God and taught her children to do the same. She was a devoted
Catholic for many years and attended Queen of Angels Church in Newark, NJ. In 2016
she was Baptized and became a member of Grace Temple Church, she joined Grace
Temple Baptist Church on May 29, 2016. Gloria had strength of David, the
understanding nature of council, the will God allowed and the love of Jesus himself.
Her footprint and legacy will remain in our hearts and lives for eternity. Gloria Ann
Hawkins, affectionately known by friends as “Vicky” or “Glo”, will be missed and
cherished.
She leaves behind her lifelong partner, Willie; her sister, Sandra; her sons,
Damien and Daniel; daughter, Shayah; her granddaughter, Tyanna; and a host of
nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
