Annie Estella Mahoney was born on January 6, 1935 in Columbus County, North Carolina, daughter of the late Jervey and Mamie Mitchell. Annie was the 4th eldest of 12 sisters and brothers. Annie moved to Plainfield, NJ at the age of 18 and eventually moved to Piscataway, New Jersey where she resided for over 57 years before moving to Wesley Chapel, Florida.
Annie married Nelson Thomas Mahoney in 1956. This union was blessed with two dearly loved children, Jerry Thomas Mahoney, and Valerie Michelle Mahoney. The Mahoney’s were a very loving, close knit, and fun family. Always willing to help those in need.
Annie was employed by Samoset Laundry for many years, before beginning her career as a Spotter for One Hour Dry Cleaners in Piscataway, NJ until retiring from the workforce after 40 years of service in the dry-cleaning industry. During her career Annie and her husband Nelson were the owners of A&N Antiques. Together they traveled around the state of New Jersey buying and selling antiques, specializing in Depression Glass in addition to vintage postcards. Sharing their love and knowledge of antiques was a favorite past time for many years.
Annie embodied the best of qualities, love for her family and friends, a gentle spirit, and a kind heart. Annie enjoyed spending time with her loved ones in addition to antiquing, gardening, and especially quilting. Over the years Annie hand-made over 20 quilts for her family and friends.
Annie made her final transition the morning of June 15, 2024, at the age of eighty-nine after a long battle with several illnesses.
Annie leaves to cherish precious memories, her daughter Valerie Michelle Scott (Jesse) and two grandchildren, Jordan Lee Scott and Jessica Anne Scott; five sisters residing in North Carolina: Catherine Spaulding, Hattie Spaulding (Henry), Mamie Spaulding, Lucy Young, Beulah Mitchell, and Sister in-law, Virginia Colley, of New Jersey, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.. Annie was preceded in death by her husband Nelson T. Mahoney, son Jerry T. Mahoney, sister Pauline Moore, and brothers Avery Mitchell, Eddie Mitchell, James Mitchell, George Mitchell, Benjamin Mitchell, and Andrew Lee Mitchell.
